Discovered in 1960 in Utah County, Nutty Putty Cave quickly became a popular destination for cavers / spelunkers of all experience levels. In the late 1980's, the cave started becoming notorious for the number of explorers who got trapped and needed emergency assistance to escape its tight, twisty and poorly mapped tunnels. In November of 2009, Nutty Putty Cave made national news when 26 year old medical student John Edward Jones got stuck upside down in a completely unchartered and impossibly narrow section of the cave.
